How do I stop my husband's iPone from getting my messages and copies of all photos, etc. We have separate Apple ids

This is excellent, and important. Was there a time when you did not have separate IDs? If so, when you realized separate IDs were required, was the iPhone that acquired the new ID thoroughly cleansed as follows?
