why is my phone not connected to iTunes?

i have tried to plug my iPhone into iTunes several times because I forgot my passcode, and it is still not working

iPhone 7, iOS 14

Carefully follow these instructions.

If you forgot the passcode on your iPhone, or your iPhone is disabled - Apple Support
