"Other" file grows when emptying trash. Losing space on new computer.

I just bought an iMac 5K 27-inch 2020 with upgraded 1TB SSD a month ago and noticed that the storage goes up no matter what I do. I'll delete files and the "Other" folder under "Manage" seems to go up the amount of the files that I deleted. I took the advice of an Apple tech and erased my computer and restored from a Time Machine backup, which did give me back some more space, but now it's happening again. Is anyone else having this issue?


I'm running macOS Big Sur 11.2.3. I've had several macs in the past and never had this issue. Wondering if there's an issue with the SSD?

Nope, most likely the way the OS is managing this category - see this Apple article:

Note this under "other"


You can't manage the contents of this category. The contents are managed by macOS, and the category varies in size depending on the current state of your Mac.
