IPad w/ Wi-Fi

Hello, I am looking into purchasing a new iPad and was interested in the wi-fi options. If possible could you explain how does that work? Is the wi-fi built into the iPad and would I be able to use it on the go?

All model of iPad are available in two significant variants - these are WiFi Only and WiFi+Cellular.

  • WiFi Only models all have a built-in WiFi radio with which to connect to WiFi networks.

  • WiFi+Cellular models have, in addition to WiFi, a Cellular radio that permits connection to Cellular Data networks.

Both variants are available with different internal storage capacities.

Yes, it has Wi-Fi built in and will easily connect to your home Wi-Fi system. When out and about, it will connect to any available system, such as cafe, hospital, hotel, etc.. These days most public spaces provide Wi-Fi for patrons. A cellular connection is more secure, but may not be as widely available. In our mountainous state, sometimes neither is available because of the terrain.

Depending upon your provider, you may need a separate contract - or perhaps can add your iPad to your existing plan.

If you already have an iPhone, perhaps consider that your iPad may be able to share Cellular data service of your iPhone by using your iPhone’s WiF hotspot:
