M1 Mac Mini cannot see scanner portion of multifunction printer

I can add my Brother MFC-J5910DW multifunction printer in Printers & Scanners on my M1 Mac Mini, which can then print without issue, but the scanning portion of it is not visible.

On my Intel MacBook Pro running Catalina it continues to work just fine in both print and scan modes.

I've tried repeatedly removing and reinstalling the driver, rebooting the Mac Mini, and even "resetting the printing system". None of this allows me to use the scanner or have the Scan button turn up in Printers and Scanners for this device.

Any advice oh wise ones at Apple?

That printer model is compatible with AirPrint as shown in this Apple document: About AirPrint - Apple Support

So uninstall the printer and reestablish it wirelessly according to the printers manual.

Have you opened Image Capture to see if you can see it in the devices/scan?

It's not visible in either Image Capture, or Preview as works fine under Catalina with the very same printer.

I meant printer... the driver comes from MacOS as you no doubt know...

I have the same problem with a Canon MX535 printer/scanner. It shows up and scans on my Intel Mac, but it's not showing up on the M1. I installed the same drivers from Canon on both machines.

Sounds like Canon has not yet provided M1-compatible drivers to Apple.

Yes... not there on M1 Mac running Big Sur... there on Intel Mac running Big Sur... when the printer is detected on the Intel you see "Bonjour multifunction" on the M1 you see only Bonjour.
