superdrive can't be detected

Superdrive no longer recognized by MacBooks MacBook Pro mid 2012/Mac OS 10.14.6 this device used to recognize Superdrive but somewhere along the line, I stopped working. Why?? MacBook Pro 21/macOS 12.0.1. - I was hoping this new machine will solve the problem, but no. the symptom is when I put in the disc, it spits back.. I invested in 2 Superdrives and none is working. MacBook Air does not recognize Superdrive. After upgrading to OS 11.5.1 my Air no longer recognizes the superdrive. I thought it was a faulty superdrive so I bought a new one. Same problem. Superdrive makes no noise.

Old problem, new problem, what changed...?
