I can't factory reset an iPhone because I don't know the password/code

I went and purchased iPhone from a friend. She has moved over seas for work. It's been a pain,as it us hard to communicate with her because of covid. Now i can't factory reset it because I don't know the password/code. She write it on a piece of paper which i lost. What do I do?

She needs to erase and remove it from her account by signing into icloud.com/find and following the steps “ If you no longer have your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch“ at https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201351
