Finder Window Will Not Remember Window Size Set

This seems to be a perennial problem. All my finder and OS tabs are opening at a small size. So I am having to resize EVERY new finder (or OS window), EVERY time.

Is there a way to force Finder to remember maximum screen? Or a set size? (not full screen where the menu bar disappears).

And isn't it about time Apple made 'fit window to screen' a setting, once and for all? MS Windows has had this since 1998, and I'm certain (25 years later) it's not beyond the tech minds at Apple. Thx

The following "trick" sometimes works in these cases:

  1. Open a new Finder window.
  2. Resize it to your liking.
  3. Press Command+N to open a second, identical Finder window.
  4. The second Finder window will be the same size as the first, resized one.
  5. Cross your fingers, restart your Mac, and see if you're lucky.
