Why do my iPhone apps automatically install on my iPad?

Every time I install an app on my iPhone, it also installs on my iPad. There are apps that I don't want on my iPad but want to keep on my iPhone. If I delete them from my iPad, they are deleted from my iPhone. And if I reinstall them on my iPhone, they once again show up on my iPad. How can I stop these automatic installations?
