I accidentally deleted a huge message thread on my iPhone. I do have Messages on iCloud, but i don't use iCloud Backup. I can see that my Messages do take up a chunk of my current iCloud storage.
How can I restore the deleted messages from the iCloud storage?

Since you didn't back up message to icloud and you sync them to icloud, then those message are gone and can't be restored.

i noticed there are lots of scammers out there that offer bogus apps to recover messages that only try to get you to click on other apps and then fail to get your messages
