Apple CarPlay Audio Turns Off After Using Siri

I've had this problem only recently in both my cars outfitted with Apple CarPlay, which makes me think it is an Apple problem and not one with my cars. I have the latest iOS on my iPhone SE 2nd Gen, and when I plug into CarPlay everything works perfectly fine, except for one thing.

I use Spotify to play music. I will select a song, and listen to it. Halfway through, I'll decide to use Siri to make a voice command, like sending a text to someone. After the text goes through, Siri turns off, but my Spotify song doesn't automatically play. Instead, my car speakers start playing the FM radio. I then have to manually press the play button in Spotify to resume my music, which is quite distracting and annoying.

Is this a common problem? Can anyone offer any advice?

Welcome z_swizz,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Based on your post, when using CarPlay and Siri, it doesn't return to the audio previously selected (Spotify). We'll do our best to assist with this.

Given your iPhone is up to date, we'd also check for any updates to the Spotify app: How to manually update apps on your Apple device

Then we'd follow: If you need help with CarPlay This walks through a lot of steps, including how to forget the device and pair it again with your vehicle.

Note: You may need to forget the device from within your vehicle's settings in order to pair it again.

If the issue continues, please reply back with the following:

  1. What happens if you ask Siri to open Spotify, when connected to the vehicle?
  2. Are you able to reproduce the issue using other audio apps and Siri? (For example, the Music app.)

Wishing you the best, take care!
