Finder preferences - open folder in tab or window

{ Open folders in tabs instead of new windows }

The last two Mac OS releases seem to ignore this setting. I turn it on, turn it off, delete the finder plist file, nothing makes a difference. I'm stuck in tab mode.

How do i stop finder windows from opening in a new tab I do not want new windows to open in tab view, it makes them impossible to transfer anything from one to the other. I have unchecked "Open folders in tabs instead of new windows" yet it persists, do i need to reboot, which i dread or ? Thanks in advance for any help.

I think the only way to do that is to use the preference in the General System Preferences. Set it to Never.

I'm not sure the Finder preference does anything.
