Files From Desktop Disappeared

For what appears to be no reason, all my documents, and files, and folders that were on my desktop have disappeared. I can access them on the cloud, so that appears to be okay, BUT I prefer them on my desktop. Also, I'm now unable to save items on my desktop. Even when I do a screen shot, it no longer appears on my desktop. Help por favor?

I'm using MacBook Pro running Catalina 10.15.7
