Case won’t charge my AirPods unless it is plugged into an adapter.

My AirPod Pro charging case only lights up when it is charging. If I push the back button after the case charged for hours, nothing happens. Additionally, it seems that the case won’t charge my AirPods unless it is plugged into an adapter. What should I do to fix this?
