computer doesn't read ANY usb flash drives

I got my MacBook Air back in October... my husband and I both have the attachment necessary for flash drives and other external hardware, but for some reason my computer reads none of them - while they pop up just fine on my husbands computer (which was purchased around the same time). What can I do? It is very annoying!!

Go to disk utility and make sure that they are mounted. Otherwise, your ports may be damaged.
