iCloud backup and storage

I recently swapped out my old iPhone for a new iPhone and now my new phone will not backup. My iCloud storage is close to full because of my old backups. If I delete the old backup on my new phone to free up space, will it delete everything? Or will it be ok cause it’s on my new phone.

The problem i have now that my icloud wont allow me to erase my iPhone-X backup. It says it couldnt perform it at that momment. Now i'm running out of my 50GB icloud. My old backup takes around 13.2GB space. I wish not to upgrade my icloud at this momment since i really have enough space consider i could delete my old iphone backup. Can anybody please help?

You can delete an iCloud Backup of an old phone without it affecting anything on your new phone. Note that this is true for iCloud Backup but not for other areas of iCloud such as iCloud Photos, iCloud Drive, etc.
