trackpad
My trackpad on Macbook Pro 2009 does not respond accurately when I push on it to select items on the screen. I have to push it several times or click in the corners of the trackpad to get a response from it.

Maybe try this:
Restart your MacBook
Plug in an external mouse or trackpad to make sure your trackpad is causing the issue and not MacOS
Update your Mac to the latest version
If this does not help you should contact apple support directly.
