Maps in Apple CarPlay off

I upgraded a few months ago to the iPhone 12 Pro. (Has X before) ever since all map features in Apple CarPlay in my VW 2020 Tiguan are off. The navigation keeps putting me in different locations as I drive causing continues rerouting. Also seems to be delays that are related, like it will show I’m three blocks back from where I actually am. This makes navigation very difficult. I had no issues before...wondering if this is a bug or I need to update Apple CarPlay somehow? I seem to have the issue with both Apple Maps and google maps.
