Half moon icon what does the half-moon icon mean before my contacts name in my Text messages?

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that you see a moon icon in front of some text conversations.
It sounds like you may have Do Not Disturb turned on. With this setting, you can silence calls and notifications except for emergency contacts. Check out Set Do Not Disturb on iPhone.
Plus, you can set a message to silence notifications, as shown in this article, you'll see the 1/2 moon in front of the Messages conversation:
Use Messages on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Scroll down to the section titled "Turn on Hide alerts".
