trying to update to Big Sur
my MacBook won't update to Big Sur because it says there isn't enough disk space. there's literally nothing on my laptop?

You would need roughly 35 GBs of free space on your hard drive to perform an upgrade to Big Sur.
35.5GBs if upgrading from macOS Sierra or later.
