Can you upload Time Machine info via external on new mac?

Hi everyone,

I completely ruined my 2012 Macbook Air by spilling tea on it. My partner was able to salvage the hard drive. I recently purchased the new Macbook Air with the M1 chip. Is there a way to pull the last Time Machine backup from my external hard drive to put on my new laptop? (PS - The last operating system on my 2012 Air was the Mojave 10.14 if that's helpful...)
