The hard drive that is being used by Time Machine on my iMac is failing. How do I transfer the old Time Machine backups from the failing hd to the new hard drive that I am going to use for time machine backups? I am running Big Sur

You can only use Disk Utility's Restore Process: Restore a disk using Disk Utility on Mac - Apple Support. You must have the new and old drive for this to work.

Much easier to just buy a new drive and start a new backup set. But if you insist using the restore feature in Disk Utility works best Restore a disk using Disk Utility on Mac - Apple Support
