Upgrading old 2009 Mac

This might be a silly question. I have a 2009 MacBook Pro and because of the age I obviously can’t upgrade the os any further than I already can. I am really only using it for internet/work things and emailing.

Could I upgrade the hard drive and ram to get up to the current OS or at least Catalina or Mojave?

No, you already have said that your old MacBook Pro cannot be upgraded.

Therefore if you inserted a hard drive that had Mojave, Catalina or the latest Big Sur on it into

your MBP it still would not work. First of all those three OS's require your mac to be using

a graphics card using the 'Metal' API.

And the LogicBoard of your MBP is not set up to run those OS's.
