I have larger storage in my new iPad mini of 256 GB,but my MacBook has only 128 GB so can I transfer my work done in MacBook to iPad mini for storage purpose,my iCloud storage of 5 GB is full and I don’t want to buy more.

Sorry no. A MacBook Air uses a different operating system (NOT compatible with your iPad's iPadOS).
