built-in microphone does not work
My internal microphone does not work. When I check the system preferences > input > internal microphone the input level remains gray and does not respond.
iMAC end of 2009, OS High Sierra 10.13.6

Please run through these steps to see if these solve the issue.
- PRAM reset: Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac - Apple Support.
- SMC reset: How to reset the SMC of your Mac - Apple Support
- Safe Mode: Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support. (Please Note: Safe Mode is for troubleshooting purposes only, not for day-to-day use.)
