I forgot my Apple ID password

Hi! I’ve forgotten my apple password. I tried to download an app, and it asked for my password. I clicked the forgotten password option and it brought me to a phone passcode option. I tried my 6 digit unlock code but turns out that wasn’t it, so I clicked the forgotten passcode option. I was then brought to a page that said if I entered in some other details it would work. I was asked for my trusted phone number, which I gave, but then it just redirected to the passcode option again. This isn’t the first time I’ve gone through this process, I just usually decide not to download the app and move on but I think I need to figure out my password. Thanks!
