MacBook Air M1 HOT HEAT

Is it normal for my MacBook Air M1 to be hot to the touch? Is this damaging it? Is there anything I can do or any app I can download from the App Store to keep a check on how the heat is affecting it?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.1

It sounds like some run-away process. Open Activity Monitor >> View >> View All Processes. Check in CPU Tab for process using unusual amounts of CPU. Also. tab over to Memory Tab and do the same - unusual memory Usage. That would be a start for tracking down why machine is running hot.
