Do daily reminders still need to be completed in order to repeat?

I want to use my Reminders (on my iphone) to remind me of something every 6 days. If it won't repeat the reminder without me interacting with the program (to tell it it's been completed this time around), it is fairly useless to me. It's too important to leave it to chance, so I'm asking here.

iPhone 6, iOS 12

It will keep reminding you of the task/event till you delete the reminder. Even marking it as complete won't stop the event to remind you the very next day.

To stop it you either have to delete the reminder or change the repeat option. Until then it is a perpetual reminder.
