ipod 4th gen - connect to iTunes

hi, my ipod says to connect to itunes but when i connect it does nothing. i think i might be doing something wrong. can someone help me to connect my ipod so that i can get back into it?

If you forgot the passcode on your iPod touch, or your iPod touch is disabled - https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211080
