Volume of paired devices

I paired two HomePod minis but can’t get the volume adjusted. One plays fine, the volume is so low on the other I can hardly hear it. Help!!

Volume on HomePod I'm always connecting my music from my iPhone to my HomePod. The first song always seems a bit loud. Regardless of turning the volume down or not, the second song always drops in volume. I then have to turn the volume up. What's causing this and is there a fix? Siri is always louder than needs to be. Same for when I set an alarm. Is there a way to adjust those volumes as I do not see any setting that allow such to be done?

HomePod mini designed to only work in a pair? I have three HomePod minis - two paired and one solo. The pair works fine but the solo mini frequently drops sound. Anyone else having this problem with a solo mini? I’m starting to think the minis were only designed to be used in pairs. Also, I’m on my second solo mini as the first one quit working after 5 months. The replacement appears to be a refurbished mini, but it is starting to show the same problems as the first one after just a couple of days.

Unpair the devices, set them both to the same volume, say 50% then pair again. See if they now stay in sync.
