There is no reason to ever install or run any 3rd party "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up", anti-virus, VPN or security apps on your Mac. This user tip describes what you need to know and do in order to protect your Mac: Effective defenses against malware and other threats - Apple Community

Since MacOS is now sequestered in a read only volume which is not accessible to you, or anyone or anything, why would you want to install something that will not be able to get to where it would need to go?

Hi Marie1942,
I see your question above and I would like to help.
Norton should NOT be installed on a Mac. It can cause more damage than good.
If you are concerned about Malware, I recommend Malwarebytes for Mac. Malwarebytes is a free and trusted app used by many Mac users. They also have a premium paid version for more protection. Just make sure you download it from Malwarebytes' official webpage!
As far as the VPN, since you will most likely be using your iMac at home with your internet, and not on public WiFi networks, a VPN is most likely not needed for your Mac.
This is a good resource to use too: https://www.apple.com/macos/security/
Hope this helps!
Cheers,
Jack
