photo pictures in folders

Do you mean folder, or album. You can use a smart album with the condition "album is not any"

Which should show all photos not in an album. There is no equivalent for folders, but pictures cant be in a folder unless they are in an album inside that folder.

It is possible to have albums at the top level, and therefore not in any folder.

I have tried the smart album hint and it works for me - attached a screenshot (in German - sorry) of how to set up the Smart Album.
