New iphone but forgot to back up old
I started out putting iphones together to transfer for the new phone but forgot to back up old phone is this a problem, can I do it after?

Yes you can back up your old iPhone after the transfer. Your old iPhone will still retain all the data that it had before the transfer took place. The idea behind creating a backup before the transfer is to safeguard against any issues that may arise during the transfer and you can then use the backup file to restore your new iPhone, if necessary.
If you have already begun the transfer or completed it successfully, by now, then go ahead create that backup of the old iPhone for future use if necessary.
