Adding new albums \ files to itunes library

Having issues just now..

Downloaded new music to laptop and trying to add to itunes library the following way

File-add folder to library

Nothing in the folder but when I check on my laptop, the songs are in there.

This is strange and frustrating.

Can anybody help me please?
