Yes, the number belongs to the SIM, not the phone. But....

Will only work if

a) Both phones are on the same cell carrier or

b) The XR is unlocked (carrier-free)

Note that your contacts are not on the SIM card, those need to be migrated. Holler if you need help.

your number is assigned to the SIM card. Both of these phones use the Nano type sim so your good to go.
