macOS Catalina says select disk where you want to install, but there is no options to select.

This mac book was used by one of my employees and now it says that it doesn't have an operating system installed. I'm trying to reinstall, but when it gets to the masOS Catalina page it says to select the disk where you want to install mac os, but there are no options. not sure what to do

Launch Disk Utility and click on "View" and select "Show All Devices" so that the physical drive appears on the left pane of Disk Utility. Select the internal physical drive and run First Aid on it. If the physical drive does not appear on the left pane of Disk Utility, then the drive has most likely failed.

If you have a non-Retina model, then perhaps the hard drive SATA Cable has failed which is really common with the 13" (mid-2012) model.

Try running the Apple Diagnostics to see if it reports any drive issues.
