Connecting a MacBook Pro to an iMac using Thunderbolt

Hello. I'm getting ready for a semester of teaching and would like to use two monitors - one to see my students in gallery view on Zoom and the other to share my slides. I connect the two computers together, but it seems that I am supposed to get a tab for arrangement in System Preferences, which I don't get. Advice on how to connect these two computers together?

Thanks,

That is the current version of support for Target Display Mode.

If Macs are from 2020, then neither is qualified to use that feature, and can not be used for that purpose.

You will need to obtain a different display or TV set.
