I lost emails I had stored in folders in Mail

I am trying to make space for the most recent update and somehow I have deleted in my mail account emails that were stored in folders. YIKES. I need them back can anybody help me?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

Have you opened the Trash to see if they're there?

Do you have a Time Machine backup to Restore to/from?
