MacOS Big Sur won’t install because I do not have enough GB volume

Installation of Big Sur won’t complete because I do not have “enough free space on the selected volume to upgrade, an additional 27.13 GB is needed”

ive already deleted half of my files and downloads in finder. I’m not sure what else to do.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 10.15

Big Sur install needs 35.5GB free space. Copy some large files to an external disk temporarily. Make good backups, too!
