Pictured Greyed out after editing in Photos

I download RAW images from my Nikon D750 and Sony Cybershot DSC-10IV to Apple Photos. Most of the time (not all of the time) after editing them - they are greyed out. If I revert to original they "appear". If I edit again I can make it "appear". I can export it as JPEG and the photo is created as edited. This is very annoying as I like to create albums of my best photos and now most of them are greyed out. I ** running the latest version of Catalina 10.15.7 and Photo (161.0.120). Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi

this seems to be a bug I ** experiencing also - If it is the same problem I ** seeing, reverting edits to original will bring the image back to normal - after which you can edit again without problems.

The workaround I use is:

  • Import the raw files
  • Select them all (in all photos view)
  • CMD-E (auto enhance)
  • Image menu>Revert to original (while they are all still selected)

From then on they all work fine.

If you can find time, please report the bug at the link below. The more who do, the better the chance that Apple will fix it.

In addition to Tony's advice: Are you seeing an active option "Reprocess RAW" in the Image menu, when you open the image in Edit Mode?

My Lumix Originals needed reprocessing after the upgrade to Catalina. If this option is available, try it.

I also have this issue and don't have the option to reprocess RAW in the image menu. Has anybody found a work around?

Causing lots of issues for me with everything taking a lot longer as I have to edit the image (then it becomes greyed out), export and then re-import. Also means I then can't go back and revert the new imported image to original.

I ** operating Catalina 10.15.2.

Hi

Thank you, yes your workaround does work for me, it just takes a long time to do this.

I'm hesitant to update Catalina to the latest released version in case of more bugs like this. Seems pretty ridiculous for Apple not to have sorted it yet, everything is taking a very long time to process in Photos at the moment.

Thanks
