Can’t update to El Capitan

I have a 2012 21.5” iMac, and I recently redownloaded Mountain Lion so I can be able to downgrade from Catalina to Mojave. But the problem is, that I’m not able to download up to El Capitan. It gave me an error instead. Is there a fix to it? The error says “An error occured while downloading the updates. (102)”

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.15

If you can boot your Mac, then you can access the macOS 10.11 installer from outside the App Store using the links and instructions in this Apple article:

If you are using an old version of the El Capitan installer, then the security certificates for it expired and you should use the new installer instead, although you should be able to use the old installer if you set the date back to a point in 2017.
