MacBook Air 2013 - internal SSD not recognize

macbook air 2013 crashed and will not recognize internal SSD - need to recover data from drive before erasing it.

when in disk utilities it does not show Mac drive but has Mac OS X Base system. When selected it displays capacity of drive, amount available, and used. How do I recover the data?

From what you describe, it appears the internal storage has failed.

How do I recover the data?

Repair the Mac then restore its Time Machine backup, or replace the Mac and transfer its contents from its Time Machine backup. You may conclude the Mac is uneconomical to repair, but first research internal SSD options from OWC / MacSales.

From what you describe you tried Disk Utility in Recovery mode, and the internal disk does not even appear. Is that correct? If so booting from another device won't change anything. Recovery Mode is the same as booting from some other device.
