I'm currently using an older iMac as a second monitor for my newer iMac using the Thunderbolt3 (usb-c) to thunderbolt2 adapter from Apple. I have tried to use this with the new MacBook Air M1, but I haven't been able to get it to work....any ideas (is it even possible?)
No Mac of any sort released in 2020 and in the future will be able
to connect to an iMac that is in Target Display Mode.

Reading this article, it seems this functionality was removed in Mojave and later. Does your current setup, before the M1, work with Mojave or catalina ?
Yes it does, I’m currently on Big Sur on my newer iMac and the older one I keep on an earlier OS.
ok, so It is just with the M1 that it does not work. Strange then.
