Big Sur mail trash not working

After installing Big Sur, my mail app no longer stores deleted emails in the Trash folder. When I delete an email from the inbox it disappears and is not moved to the Trash. I have checked all of the account mailbox behaviors and they are OK. This applies to all my POP accounts. It is interesting that I have one IMAP account and when I deleted an email to that email account it stores the deleted email in a Trash folder specific to that email address.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the suggestion. I checked my xfinity settings and it is set up to allow Mail to tell the server what to do which is to delete mail off the server after one week. And sure enough there is only one weeks worth of email on the xfinity server including the messages I deleted in Mail are still there.

In the POP mail accounts, is it configured to Remove Mail from Server. If so, the message is only hosted Locally thus once deleted it is gone. Unless, you configure a Trash folder for that account and use Move to Trash.

OK, I figured it out from another thread. It has to be added to favorites. I was looking under "On My Mac" and the trash was always empty. I still don't understand why that works the way it does, but at the emails in the trash are not gone.

Here is another clue. On my iPad, which also uses the POP accounts, keeps the deleted emails in the Trash folder.
