Every time I create a new folder all the files, photo images and folders that I have on my desktop magically appear in the folder. How do I create an empty folder that I can fill with only the items I want in it?
I have a MacBook Air Catalina 13-inch 2020
Going to menu bar > file > create new folder has always worked for me.

It has for me as well since my first Mac, a Performa 636, until today when the dang folders started including everything on my desktop.
It is maddening. I have wasted a whole day.
