Free Apple TV+ for a year promotion

Hi,

When I purchased my Mac early October of this year I received a couple emails saying I could register for a year of free apple tv. However, when I click on the "start 1 year free" button on the email it takes me to Apple TV, which urges me to sign up for a 7 day free trial,. after which I will be charged $5.99.

I'd like to take advantage of this offer, and would appreciate some direction in how to do so.
