The automatic ear detection on my left AirPod is not working.
If I turn off the auto ear detection they work normally, but if it is on and I take out the right one they disconnect.
I have switched off/restarted iPhone, forgotten and reconnected AirPods, they are 100% charged but the problem persists. Any more ideas please?

have you tried resetting the airpods (according to Apple's procedure you can google for)?

Yes- I have reset the air pods, tried disconnecting them and reconnecting to phone and toggled the ear detection setting but no joy.
