I have an old IMac from 2009 and want to recycle it. First, how do I eliminate all the files on the computer, and 2. where can I recycle it without purchasing a new Apple item?

Boot into the Recovery Partition (Command + R on startup) and open Disk Utility and then format the internal drive. You can recycle through Apple without purchasing a new product. Simply navigate to https://www.apple.com/shop/trade-in?afid=p238%7CsvwvKLq8V-dc_mtid_1870765e38482_pcrid_427418702567_pgrid_80259604234_&cid=aos-us-kwgo-brand--slid---product-
