Currently there is no high tech method for locating an Apple Pencil other than the old fashioned method of actually looking for it.
If the Pencil is within your home and Bluetooth is turned on your device and your device asks to pair your Pencil to your iPad or the Appple Pencil appears in your list of Bluetooth devices, then the Apple Pencil is within a 30 foot range of your iPad.
