One side of my track pad has dropped lower than the other. It still clicks but nothing happens. The left side is fine.

My 2011 Macbook air has a sudden problem with the trackpad. the right side is lower than the left. It makes a clicking sound but does not work. The left side works normally. Is there a fix? Other info: my battery is dead and I have not replaced it yet. Could that contribute to the issue?

Yes. A dead or defective battery can fail in a manner that causes it to expand causing upward pressure on the trackpad, making it unresponsive and eventually resulting in additional hardware failure that may be uneconomical to repair.

Replace the battery before that occurs.

Thanks for the info. I had already ordered the same battery from BH photo which gives us next day delivery. We have changed a hard drive and other batteries and I changed a fan in an HP laptop. It was underneath everything and did not want to let go so I thought it was toast but it works as well as ever which was never very good. Never did get all the screws back in. And I have an Ifixit kit with all the screwdrivers.
